Child and Family

Portrait photography Sligo, Ireland. Suzy McCanny

For family portraits I usually do a session with groups according to your wishes (The whole family, siblings together, each child individually, kids with granny etc).

For an older family, you may be able to do a mini-seesion which is half an hour long (€40).

Clothing co-ordination really helps a group photo to look it’s best. Choose clothing in the same tonal ranges so that no single person stands out the most because the clothing is too light or bright as compared to the rest of the group. If bright colours are your thing, you can all wear bright dresses/shirts in different colours. . if everyone is equally vibrant the picture will be balanced but beware the viewer may look at the clothes first and then the faces with this type of image.

Portraiture with clothing in harmonious colours is timeless because the viewer’s eye goes directly to the faces.
You may want to have some classic clothing and a change for some fun “personality” wear.

If you know where you would like to hang your image, it is a good idea to lay out the clothing you plan to wear for the shoot in the room the portrait is destined for. This way you will be able to see how the colours compliment their surrounding.

You can also send us a photograph of your home and we will digitally place the photograph within it at your ordering session. By this means you can see what  size of image will work best and what finish or framing you would like.

Bad skin day?
If you have blemishes on the day or if you suffer from troubled skin – Don’t Panic!- Don’t over apply make-up or concealer.
Blemishes can be edited out and are easier to remove than clumpy make-up.

If in doubt, jeans and t-shirts in the same or neutral colours are a safe bet.
