The Irish Professional Photographers Association has awarded my image WINNER of Best Commercial / Advertising Image 2014 at their recent annual awards which were held in Killarney.
I was out of the country and therefore unable to collect it myself and only heard by text message the following day. I am completely delighted and here’s why. . .
There are a series of stages to the awards, with the initial images entered at four various times throughout the year and judged by a panel of five photographers. The images are judged on their own merit at this stage, often inciting challenges between the judges to champion an image from one level to the next when they believe an image deserves to score higher or lower. (The judges themselves usually have images in the awards, when their own image comes up for judging, they have to abstain) If the image receives a Gold award which translates to a perfectly executed shot it can then progress to the next stage of judging where the qualifying images compete against one another. I was up against some very skilled professionals whose work I admire greatly so that piece of Dublin crystal means a lot to me.
